Abstract
We describe a case of 16 year old with recurrent ED presentations to a regional hospital in Australia, over a two year period, with various symptoms and issues ranging from dizziness, stress seizures, to drug overdoses. This patient has a complex background of functional neurological disorder with a extensive trauma background, complex mood disorder, with psychogenic non epileptiform seizures, postural orthostatic tachycardia.
Subsequently, her presentation has evolved into an Eating disorder spectrum (EDOS), with heavy resource allocation involving multiple teams including paediatric and adult subspeciality teams such as neurology, psychiatry, intensive care medicine, ambulance and allied health teams both in the hospital and community.
This case provides an opportunity to discuss challenges and approaches to potential solutions in dealing with a complex healthcare system.
